Your ERP should fit your business, and talk to everything else
Every ERP covers the common processes well: invoicing, purchasing, stock, accounting. But every business also has something particular, such as an approval rule, a pricing method, a report the board relies on, a document format a key customer demands, or a process that gives you an edge. And no ERP lives alone: it needs to exchange data with your online store, bank, payment gateway, courier, POS, CRM or government portals.
Customization adapts the ERP to those needs. Integration connects it to other systems so data flows automatically instead of being re-typed. Done well, both save hours every day and remove errors. Done badly, they create a fragile system that breaks on every update and that only one developer understands.
ITZone follows a simple rule: configure first, customize only where it adds real value, and build everything in an upgrade-safe, documented way. Our developers work with Odoo, Dynamics 365 Business Central, SAP Business One and NetSuite, and connect them using standard APIs and proven connectors.

What is ERP customization?
ERP customization means changing or extending an ERP beyond its standard settings to fit specific business needs. It’s useful to separate three levels. Configuration uses built-in settings, such as tax codes, approval limits or document layouts, with no coding. Extension adds new fields, reports or automated actions using the platform’s supported tools. Development writes new code to add functionality or change behaviour.
We always try configuration first, then extensions, and only develop where it delivers clear value. Every custom development is documented, version-controlled and tested, so it can be maintained and upgraded.
What is ERP integration?
ERP integration is connecting your ERP to other software so data moves between them automatically. Modern integrations usually use APIs (application programming interfaces), which let systems exchange data securely in real time or on a schedule. Other methods include file-based exchange, ready-made connectors from app stores, and integration platforms that manage many connections in one place.
A good integration defines exactly which data moves, in which direction, how often, what happens when something fails, and who is alerted. That last part is often forgotten, and it’s why many integrations quietly stop working without anyone noticing.
Odoo customization done properly
Odoo is highly flexible, and that flexibility is a strength and a risk. Our Odoo developers build custom modules following Odoo’s development guidelines, keep customizations separate from core code, use Studio only where appropriate, and document every change. This keeps your system upgradeable to new Odoo versions. We also review existing customizations from other partners, fix what’s fragile, and remove what’s no longer needed.
Choosing the right type of integration
Real-time integrations send data the moment something happens, such as an online order arriving in the ERP within seconds. They’re ideal for stock availability and orders. Scheduled integrations run at set times, such as importing bank statements every morning. They’re simpler and suit data that doesn’t need to be instant. Event-based integrations react to specific triggers, such as sending a shipping request when a delivery is validated. We choose the method that matches the business need, not the most complex option.
When customization isn’t the answer
Some requests are better solved another way. If a process exists only because of an old system’s limitation, it’s usually better to adopt the ERP’s standard process. If a report is needed once a year, an export may be enough. If a third-party app already does the job well and is maintained by its developer, it can be better than building your own. We tell you honestly when customization adds value and when it would only add maintenance work.
Security in integrations
Integrations handle sensitive data such as customers, prices and payments, so we treat them as part of your security. We use dedicated integration users with minimum permissions, encrypted connections, secure storage of API keys, and logging of every exchange. When staff or vendors change, access can be revoked without affecting the rest of the system.

Not sure which ERP fits?
We map your processes and compare options honestly. The first consultation is free.
Industries where integration matters most
Retail and e-commerce: stores, marketplaces and POS all need stock and orders in sync. Logistics and distribution: courier, warehouse and customer portals exchange data constantly. Manufacturing: machines, quality systems and planning tools feed production data. Healthcare and clinics: practice management and billing systems connect to accounting. Professional services: time tracking and project tools feed invoicing.
Principles we follow
Standard first. Upgrade-safe code. Documentation for every change. Testing before release. Error alerts on every integration. Security and permissions respected. You own the code we write for you.
Case study
An e-commerce retailer was re-typing its online orders into the ERP every day. We integrated their Shopify store with Odoo: orders, stock and payments now sync automatically.
Customization & Integration questions, answered
What is ERP customization?
Changing or extending an ERP beyond its standard settings so it fits your processes, through configuration, extensions or custom development.
What is ERP integration?
Connecting your ERP to other systems, such as e-commerce, banks or POS, so data moves automatically.
Will customizations break when we upgrade?
Not if they’re built properly. We follow each platform’s guidelines and keep custom code separate, then test before upgrades.
Do you customize Odoo built by another partner?
Yes. We review the existing code, fix risky parts and continue development.
Can you connect our ERP to our online store?
Yes, including Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento, with orders, stock and prices synchronised.
How do we know an integration is working?
We add monitoring and alerts, so failures are reported immediately rather than discovered weeks later.
Do you build ERP API integrations?
Yes. We use each platform’s REST or other APIs, plus secure middleware where needed.
Can you integrate with Egyptian e-invoicing?
We help connect your ERP to an accredited e-invoicing service provider as requirements are rolled out.
How long does a typical integration take?
Ready-made connectors can be live in days; custom integrations usually take two to six weeks including testing.
Can you document existing customizations we don't understand?
Yes. We review and document what exists, identify risks and recommend what to keep, fix or remove.
Do you provide support for integrations after launch?
Yes. Integrations can be included in your ERP support plan, with monitoring and fixes when connected systems change their APIs.
Can you build a customer or supplier portal connected to the ERP?
Yes. Portals let customers view orders and invoices, or suppliers confirm purchase orders, using live ERP data.
