About Fortinet
What is Fortinet?
Fortinet is a global cyber security company, founded in 2000 and headquartered in California, best known for its FortiGate next-generation firewalls. Its portfolio has grown into the Fortinet Security Fabric, a set of integrated security products covering networks, endpoints, email, cloud, secure access and security operations, managed through shared tools and threat intelligence. Fortinet is one of the most widely deployed firewall vendors in the world and is very common across Egypt and wider Middle East.
What is a FortiGate firewall?
A FortiGate is Fortinet’s next-generation firewall. It combines traditional firewalling with intrusion prevention, web filtering, application control, anti-malware, SSL inspection, VPN and SD-WAN in one appliance, powered by the FortiOS operating system. FortiGate models range from small desktop units for branch offices to high-performance appliances for large networks, plus virtual and cloud versions for Azure and AWS. Many models use Fortinet’s own security processors to keep performance high when security features are enabled. Security updates and threat intelligence are delivered through FortiGuard subscription services.

Is FortiGate right for you?
Good fit if…
- You want strong security and performance in one appliance
- You have branches that need secure SD-WAN
- You want firewall, Wi-Fi and switching managed together
Consider alternatives if…
- Your team is standardised on another vendor’s ecosystem
- You prefer a fully cloud-managed approach with minimal configuration
- You don’t plan to keep firmware updated or managed
Alternatives: Sophos, Cisco Meraki (IT Infrastructure)
Why FortiOS updates matter
Like all major firewall vendors, Fortinet regularly publishes security advisories, and attackers actively target unpatched firewalls and VPNs, especially SSL-VPN features. A FortiGate is only as secure as its firmware and configuration. Our managed service tracks Fortinet advisories, assesses your exposure, applies updates in planned windows, prioritises critical fixes, disables unused services, restricts admin access and enforces MFA for VPN and administration.

Migrating to FortiGate
Moving from another firewall brand requires careful translation of rules, NAT, VPNs and routing. We document the existing configuration, clean up unused rules, rebuild policies on FortiGate following best practice, test in parallel where possible, and cut over outside working hours with a rollback plan.
FortiGate secure SD-WAN for multi-site businesses
Businesses with several offices, stores or warehouses often struggle with unreliable links and complex VPNs. FortiGate’s built-in SD-WAN uses multiple internet connections at each site, such as fibre and 4G/5G backup, and steers each application over the best path based on real-time performance. Voice and video calls stay clear, cloud apps stay fast, and if a line fails, traffic moves automatically. Because SD-WAN and security run on the same FortiGate, every site gets the same protection without extra appliances, and everything can be managed centrally through FortiManager.
The Fortinet Security Fabric
The Security Fabric connects Fortinet products so they share information and act together. For example, a FortiGate can see which device a threat came from via FortiClient, quarantine a compromised device from the network through FortiSwitch or FortiAP, and send logs to FortiAnalyzer for investigation. For businesses that standardise on Fortinet, this integration simplifies management and speeds up response.
FortiGate best-practice configuration
We apply a consistent baseline on every FortiGate we manage: admin access only from trusted networks with MFA, unused services and interfaces disabled, security profiles applied to all internet traffic, SSL inspection where appropriate, logging to FortiAnalyzer or our SOC, VPN with MFA and limited access, regular configuration backups, and documented change control.
Who uses FortiGate
Offices of every size, retail chains, warehouses and logistics hubs, clinics and hospitals, schools, hotels, and large enterprises. FortiGate is common in organisations that need strong performance with all security features enabled, or that want firewall, Wi-Fi and switching from one vendor.
FortiGuard subscriptions explained
FortiGate security features depend on FortiGuard services that keep threat intelligence current: intrusion prevention signatures, antivirus and sandboxing, web and DNS filtering, and application control. Subscriptions are usually bought as bundles and renewed periodically, and hardware support is separate. If subscriptions lapse, the firewall keeps passing traffic but its protection becomes outdated. We track renewal dates and remind you well before they expire.
FortiGate high availability
For sites that can’t afford downtime, two FortiGates can run as a high-availability cluster. If one unit fails or is being updated, the other takes over within seconds, so users keep working. We design, configure and test HA as part of critical deployments.
Remote access with FortiClient and ZTNA
FortiClient provides secure remote access for staff, either as a traditional VPN or using zero-trust network access (ZTNA), which gives each user access only to the specific applications they need after verifying identity and device health. ZTNA reduces the risk of exposing your whole network through a single VPN login, and it’s increasingly recommended for hybrid workforces. We help you choose the right approach and roll it out with MFA.
Case study
A retail chain deployed FortiGates with secure SD-WAN and central management. Store connectivity is more stable, and head office manages all policies from one console.
Fortinet questions, answered
What is Fortinet?
A global cyber security company known for FortiGate firewalls and the integrated Fortinet Security Fabric.
What is a FortiGate?
Fortinet’s next-generation firewall, combining firewall, VPN, SD-WAN, intrusion prevention and web filtering.
Do FortiGates need subscriptions?
Security features such as IPS, web filtering and anti-malware updates require FortiGuard subscriptions; support contracts cover hardware and firmware.
Can you manage our existing FortiGate?
Yes. We review, harden and manage it.
Is FortiGate good for small businesses?
Yes. Smaller FortiGate models suit small offices and branches.
Do you set up FortiGate SSL-VPN or ZTNA?
Yes, with MFA, and we advise on the most secure remote access option for your needs.
Can FortiGate run in Azure or AWS?
Yes, as a virtual appliance.
How do I know if my FortiGate firmware is vulnerable?
We check your model and FortiOS version against Fortinet’s published advisories and tell you what action is needed.
Can you integrate FortiGate with our SOC?
Yes. FortiGate logs feed our monitoring for 24/7 detection and response.
Can you replace our old FortiGate model?
Yes. We migrate the configuration to a supported model, clean up rules and cut over out of hours.
Do you monitor FortiGate subscription expiry?
Yes, as part of managed support, so protection never lapses unnoticed.
Can FortiGate manage our Wi-Fi?
Yes. FortiAP access points can be managed directly from the FortiGate, which suits smaller sites.
Do you supply genuine Fortinet hardware?
Yes, through authorised Egyptian distribution, so warranty and support are valid.
How long does a FortiGate deployment take?
Usually one to two weeks from approval, including staging and a planned cut-over.
