Dell PowerEdge and HPE ProLiant servers in Cairo

The two most trusted server brands in Egypt, sized to your workload, supplied with the right warranty, installed and supported by our engineers.

About the platforms

Dell PowerEdge and HPE ProLiant at a glance

Dell PowerEdge is Dell Technologies’ server family, covering tower servers for small offices, rack servers for server rooms, and modular systems for larger environments. PowerEdge servers are managed with Dell’s iDRAC remote management, which lets engineers monitor hardware, update firmware and even reinstall operating systems remotely.

HPE ProLiant is Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s server family. The ProLiant DL range, including the widely used DL380, covers rack servers, while the ML range covers tower servers. ProLiant servers use HPE’s iLO remote management, which provides similar remote monitoring and control.

Both brands are reliable, widely supported in Egypt, and available with a range of warranty and on-site support options. The right choice usually depends on your existing environment, specific workload needs, availability and the support level you need.

What makes a Dell PowerEdge server a good choice?

PowerEdge servers are popular in Egyptian businesses for their broad range of configurations, strong remote management through iDRAC, and good availability through local distribution. They suit everything from a single file and domain server in a small office to multi-host virtualization clusters. Dell’s ProSupport services provide on-site parts replacement with different response levels, and Dell OpenManage tools help with firmware and monitoring at scale.

Why is the HPE ProLiant DL380 so popular?

The DL380 is one of the most widely deployed 2U rack servers in the world. Its balance of processing power, memory capacity, storage bays and expansion slots makes it a common choice for virtualization hosts, databases and mixed workloads. HPE iLO remote management and HPE support services make it straightforward to manage, and many engineers are familiar with it, which simplifies long-term support.

In practice, both are excellent. If you already run one brand, staying with it simplifies management and spare parts. If you’re starting fresh, we’ll compare like-for-like quotes and recommend the better value.

Choosing the right server specification

Processors

More cores help when you run many virtual machines or busy databases; higher clock speeds help some single-threaded applications such as certain accounting and ERP systems. Remember that some software, including Windows Server and VMware, is licensed per core, so more cores can mean higher licence costs.

Memory

Memory is often the real limit in virtualization. We size for current use plus growth, and leave free slots for future upgrades.

Storage

SSDs give much faster performance than hard drives and are now standard for operating systems, databases and virtual machines. High-capacity hard drives still make sense for archives and backups. RAID protects against disk failure.

Network

Most new servers should have at least 10 Gbps network connections, especially for virtualization and storage traffic.

Redundancy

Dual power supplies, redundant fans and RAID are standard for business servers, and should be connected to separate power feeds or UPS units where possible.

Remote management

Make sure iDRAC or iLO is licensed at a level that allows full remote console access, so engineers can fix problems without travelling to site.

Server security hardening

A new server should never go into production with default settings. We update firmware and BIOS, set strong passwords on iDRAC or iLO and place them on a management network, enable secure boot, disable unused services, install current operating system updates, configure endpoint protection and backups, and record everything in the asset register. These steps take hours at installation but close the gaps attackers commonly exploit.

New or refurbished servers?

Refurbished servers can reduce upfront cost for test environments or non-critical workloads, but they usually have shorter or third-party warranties, older processors with higher power use, and less time before end of support. For production systems we generally recommend new servers with manufacturer warranty, and we’ll explain the trade-offs honestly if budget is tight.

Is a new server right for you?

Good fit if…

  • Applications need fast local access
  • Data must stay on premises
  • You run several virtual servers

Consider alternatives if…

  • Your team mostly works remotely in cloud apps
  • You want no hardware to manage
  • You only need file sharing (a NAS may be enough)

See Servers & Storage and Cloud Hosting for alternatives.

Warranty and support levels

Server warranties vary from basic parts replacement to four-hour on-site response, and the choice matters. A next-business-day warranty may be fine for a secondary server, but a server running your ERP or production systems usually needs faster response. We recommend warranty levels based on how critical each server is, register warranties in your company’s name, track expiry dates, and handle claims for you.

Who we supply servers to

We supply and support servers for trading and logistics companies running ERP and warehouse systems, clinics and healthcare providers that must keep data on site or in Egypt, professional firms with file and document servers, schools with on-premise systems, and growing companies building their first virtualization cluster. Many clients come to us after an old server fails, but the best time to talk is a year before warranty ends, so the replacement is planned rather than urgent.

Case study

A healthcare provider replaced three ageing tower servers with two Dell PowerEdge hosts running Hyper-V, with four-hour on-site warranty.

HPE & Dell Servers questions, answered

Which is better, Dell or HPE servers?

Both are excellent and widely supported in Egypt. The better choice depends on your workload, existing environment, availability and support needs at the time.

What is a Dell PowerEdge server?

Dell’s family of business servers, including tower, rack and modular models, managed remotely through iDRAC.

What is the HPE ProLiant DL380?

A popular 2U rack server from HPE, widely used for virtualization, databases and mixed workloads.

Do you supply servers with Egyptian warranty?

Yes. Servers are sourced through authorised Egyptian channels and registered in your company’s name.

Can you upgrade our existing server instead of replacing it?

Often yes, by adding memory or disks, if the server is still under support and the upgrade solves the actual bottleneck.

How long should a server last?

Typically five to seven years, depending on workload and support availability.

Do you install the operating system and migrate data?

Yes. We install and configure Windows Server or Linux, set up roles and migrate your data and applications.

Can you supply servers for a branch or remote site?

Yes. We can configure servers in our workshop, ship them to site and complete setup remotely through iDRAC or iLO, with a short on-site visit if needed.

Do you dispose of old servers securely?

Yes. We wipe or destroy disks with certificates and arrange recycling. See IT Asset Management

Do you offer extended warranties for older servers?

Where manufacturers still offer extensions we arrange them; otherwise we can discuss third-party hardware support as a bridge until replacement.

Can you install servers out of hours?

Yes. Installation and migration are usually scheduled for evenings or weekends to avoid disruption.
