Email is still the number one way attackers get in
Most cyber attacks start with an email. A convincing message asks staff to “review a document” on a fake login page. An invoice arrives from a supplier, except the bank details have changed. A senior manager’s name appears on an urgent request to buy gift cards or transfer money. An attachment hides malware that opens the door for ransomware.
In Egypt, business email compromise and invoice fraud are a particular risk because of high-value supplier payments and international trade. A single successful email can cost far more than years of protection.
Built-in email filtering catches a lot, but determined attackers test their emails against common filters. Strong email security combines advanced filtering, link and attachment analysis, impersonation detection, domain authentication with SPF, DKIM and DMARC, and trained staff who know what to look for. ITZone sets up and manages all of it for Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and other email platforms.

What you get
Advanced anti-phishing
Detection of credential-phishing pages, lookalike domains and impersonation of executives and suppliers.
Link protection
Links checked when clicked, not only when delivered, blocking pages that turn malicious later.
Attachment sandboxing
Suspicious attachments opened safely in an isolated environment before delivery.
Anti-spam and anti-malware
Filtering of spam, bulk mail and known malware.
Domain protection
SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured and monitored so attackers can’t send emails pretending to be your domain.
Account protection
MFA, sign-in risk detection and alerts for suspicious mailbox rules and forwarding.
User reporting
A “report phishing” button so staff can flag suspicious messages for review.
Training and simulations
Phishing simulations and short training to build awareness. See Security Awareness Training
What is phishing?
Phishing is a type of cyber attack where criminals send fraudulent messages, usually emails, pretending to be a trusted person or organisation, to trick people into revealing passwords, opening malware or sending money. Common forms include:
| Type | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| Credential phishing | A fake login page for Microsoft 365, banks or delivery services |
| Spear phishing | A targeted email using personal or company details |
| Whaling / CEO fraud | Impersonation of senior executives requesting urgent action |
| Business email compromise (BEC) | Fake or hijacked supplier emails changing bank details on invoices |
| Smishing and vishing | Phishing by SMS or phone call |
| Malicious attachments | Documents or files that install malware |
Signs of phishing include urgency, unexpected requests for payment or credentials, slightly misspelled sender addresses or domains, and links that don’t match the claimed website.
What is email security?
Email security is the set of technologies and practices that protect email accounts and communications from threats such as phishing, malware, spam, spoofing and account takeover. It covers three areas: inbound protection, filtering what arrives; domain and outbound protection, making sure your domain can’t be impersonated and your outgoing mail is trusted; and account protection, preventing attackers from taking over mailboxes.
SPF, DKIM and DMARC in plain English
SPF (Sender Policy Framework) lists which servers may send email for your domain. DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) adds a digital signature proving an email wasn’t altered and came from your domain. DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) tells receiving servers what to do with emails that fail SPF or DKIM checks, such as quarantine or reject, and sends you reports. Together they stop attackers sending emails that appear to come from your exact domain, and they improve delivery of your legitimate emails. We set them up step by step, monitor reports, and move DMARC to enforcement safely.
Email security gateway or built-in protection?
An email security gateway is a separate service that filters email before it reaches your mailbox. Many businesses now rely instead on protection built into their platform, such as Microsoft Defender for Office 365, plus API-based add-ons that scan inside the mailbox. The right choice depends on your platform, licences and risk. We assess your current protection and recommend the simplest setup that closes the gaps. See Microsoft Defender

Protecting your finance team from payment fraud
Technology helps, but process matters too. We recommend verifying any bank detail change by calling the supplier on a known number, requiring two-person approval for new payees and large payments, flagging external emails clearly, and training finance staff on common fraud patterns. Combined with impersonation detection and DMARC, these steps stop most payment fraud attempts.
If someone clicks: our response
No filter catches everything, so the response matters. When a user reports a suspicious email or our tools detect a click on a malicious link, we search all mailboxes for the same message and remove it, check whether credentials were entered, reset passwords and revoke sessions if needed, review sign-in logs and mailbox rules for signs of takeover, and block the sender and domain. The user gets quick, non-judgemental guidance, because people who report mistakes quickly are a security asset.
Common email attacks targeting Egyptian businesses
Fake delivery and customs notifications asking for small payments or logins. Impersonation of government services, banks and telecom providers. Supplier invoice fraud in trading and logistics. Fake Microsoft 365 password expiry warnings. Executive impersonation during busy periods or travel. Recruitment and visa scams aimed at HR teams. Attackers often time campaigns around holidays and year-end when people are busy.
Reporting
Monthly reports show emails blocked by category, phishing attempts, impersonation attempts, user reports, DMARC results and any compromised accounts, so you can see the threat level and the value of protection.
Who needs advanced email security
Every business that uses email to deal with suppliers, customers or payments. Finance teams, executives and HR are the most targeted, and companies in trading, logistics, real estate and professional services see the highest volume of invoice fraud and impersonation attempts.
Case study
A trading company in 10th of Ramadan City received a spoofed supplier email requesting a bank change. After implementing impersonation protection and DMARC, similar emails are now quarantined automatically, and finance verifies changes by phone.
Email Security questions, answered
What is phishing?
A fraudulent message pretending to come from a trusted source, designed to steal credentials, install malware or trick people into sending money.
What is email security?
Technologies and practices that protect email from phishing, malware, spam, spoofing and account takeover.
Is Microsoft 365's built-in filtering enough?
Basic filtering helps, but advanced protection such as Defender for Office 365, proper configuration and DMARC give much stronger protection.
What is DMARC and do I need it?
DMARC stops attackers sending emails as your domain and improves delivery. Every business domain should have it.
What should staff do with a suspicious email?
Not click, not reply, and report it using the report button or to IT.
Can you recover a compromised mailbox?
Yes. We secure the account, remove malicious rules, investigate what was accessed and help notify affected contacts. See Incident Response
Do you support Google Workspace?
Yes, alongside Microsoft 365 and other platforms.
Will email security delay our emails?
Most emails are delivered without noticeable delay; attachment sandboxing can add a short delay for suspicious files only.
Can legitimate emails end up in quarantine?
Occasionally. We tune policies and give users or admins an easy way to release legitimate messages.
How long does setup take?
Most protections are live within days; DMARC is moved to full enforcement gradually over a few weeks to avoid blocking legitimate mail.
Can you check our domain's email security now?
Yes. We can review your SPF, DKIM and DMARC records and tell you what’s missing.
Do you train staff to spot phishing?
Yes. Our awareness programme includes short lessons and realistic phishing simulations.
